Om Kalsoum
Abdel Wahab
Dalida

One would expect that the most famous singers of Egypt would sing in Arabic and be known in the Arab world.

And evidently that is also the case but this is a rule that has more than one exception.

Indeed the "foreign" communities in Egypt were so large that several artists, of Italian, Greek or franc descent gained worldwide fame, after making their débuts in Cairo.

And while Om Kalsoum is The icon of the Arab music, Dalida, daughter of an Italian immigrant and born in Choubra, a suburb of Cairo, has achieved worldwide fame with her songs.

A similar parallel for male singers may be drawn with Abdelwahab, Farid El Atrach, etc., and George Moustaki or Demis Roussos who all enchanted so many generations with their melodies, worldwide!
